About Fest |
The idea of organising an international folklore festival was born in 1998. Since then, eight festivals have been organised. The Festival is inserted in the CIOFF official program (International Council of Organisers of Folklore Festivals and Traditional Culture), which acts under the aegis of UNESCO. Groups from Moldova, Italy, Israel, Slovakia, Spain, Burytia, Armenia, Senegal, Mexico, Bulgaria, Poland, Netherlands, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovenia, Portugal, Lithuania, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Albania, Greece and Croatia have taken part in the Festival.
Folklore ensembles have performed in 5 counties and in 15 towns and local districts: in Karlovac, Ogulin, Ozalj, Slunj, Duga Resa, Draganić, Vojnić, Topusko, Rijeka, Vrbnik, Krk, Senj, Selce, Umag and Lovran. Thus the Festival contributes to the recognition of preserving traditional culture, enriches the cultural and entertainment programs and enhances the tourist programs not only for the spectators but also for the participants themselves. Many of the participants have spoken well of the organisation, the residents of the towns where performances took place, as well as of the Croats and Croatia in general, making a contribution, however slight it may seem, to the recognition of our Country.
An increasing member of the media have followed the Festival with analytical attention. Media reviews promote not only the traditional heritage, but the towns where performances take place, and above all Karlovac County and the Town of Karlovac, the central location of the festival. It is our belief that the International Folklore Festival opens our country to the world and also brings the world closer to our people, inspiring friendship and understanding.
